Needing More Pieces of the Puzzle: (#3)
I keep a list of things you will never hear a woman say to her husband. One of my favorites is, “Don’t stop and ask for directions, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out how to get there on your own.”
I’ve been trying to figure out how to navigate life for a long time. Occasionally, I have to stop and ask for directions. People can help. Also, I’ve been asking God to help me put the pieces together. And He does, but my puzzle is yet somewhat incomplete.
Too many things in life simply don’t make sense. Human reasoning doesn’t have enough of the facts to even begin to make a reasonable conclusion about some of the basics of life. I have no idea why God allows some things to happen and disallows other things. So I keep going back to Proverbs 3:5-6 and try not to lean to my own understanding.

It’s Just Not Fair: (#4)
Asaph complained that serving God had not got him anywhere, at least compared to worldly people (Psa 730. Isaiah moaned that the prophets had all been killed and he was the only one left (1 Kings 19:10+). The complaints go one and on, not only in the Bible, but among ordinary people, many of them Christians.
A marriage breaks up and one complains, “It just isn’t fair, I tried so hard to keep us together.” One man works diligently all of his life to earn a living and has very little left when he retires, yet a friend inherits a fortune and has plenty of money for the rest of his life. A bullet barely misses one soldier, but hits and kills another. Hundreds of children are born normal, yet there are those born blind, deaf, with heart ailments, cerebral palsy, and much more.
What in life is fair? In reality, probably nothing! At least not in the manner that most of us define fairness. But weren’t we all born equal? Define that please. But our constitution guarantees we all have the same rights. Yes, but who is left in charge to see that that happens—the righteous or self-centered egotistical people? If we weren’t living in a world under the sway of the evil one [Satan] (1 John 5:19) and evil men and women, we most certainly would see things distributed more equally and fairly. But that is not the case for now.
If you are looking for fairness, don’t look for it in people or in the world anywhere. It’s just not there.

Impressions: (#5)
Most people are concerned about how they look. They want to leave a good impression. Others don’t much care. They know that people look at them, but self-image is either missing or they have grown into a person who is comfortable with himself or herself, and have no need to impress someone else.
No matter where we go we have the sense that we are being watched, even scrutinized. When I was young, I was conscious that I was skinny. Now that I’m old, I’m fat, balding, have a big stomach, my nose is bent, my back hurts, I’ve got wrinkles, and I’ve got to think hard about how to dress just to stay up with the culture. In reality, if people do look at me while in public, I doubt they remember anything after several seconds.
Recently, a friend of mine shared something someone said that deeply affected her. It’s really the difference between a self-centered life and one that cares about others. It was simply, The thing a person will remember most about you is how you made them feel.
